Intelligent Sardars of India

Recent tabling of the ‘Action Taken Report’ on the Nanavati Commission report on the 1984 Sikh riots sparked off a number of questions.

An infant, when the late PM was killed and the riots happened, a synopsis of what happened, as I gather is this:

1984 and thereabouts.

Sikh ‘Nationalist’ Terrorism on the rise. Militants take refuge in the Golden Temple.
Iron Lady orders Operation Bluestar. Sikhs aghast at desecration of their shrine.
Certain Sikh quarters seek revenge. Brainwash Sikh bodyguards of Mrs Gandhi into killing her.
Congress goons use opportunity to loot, kill and inhumanly torture Sikh families in Delhi. Largely believed (also eye-witnessed people claim) G gamily sycophants including Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler have personally orchestrated some of the killings.

1985
Air India aircraft Kanishka bombed by Sikh militants.

2005

Jagdish Tytler is Cabinet Minister. Manmohan Singh is Prime Minister. ATR tabled. Sikh demonstrators ask for trial of Tytler, political parties are more considerate –they seek his resignation. Reluctant Tytler resigns protesting.

The BIG Question.

The segment of Sikh ‘nationalist’ terrorists had enough resources to create havoc in Punjab in the 1980s, ensure the assassination of a Primer Minister, could heartlessly bomb an aircraft of innocent passengers* …

And yet… could not ensure that Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar and their cronies learnt a lesson ???

Now, that may explain why Sardars are Sardars are...what ppl say they are

*This blogger happened to know people onboard Kaniskha.

I notice you never mentioned the butchering of hundreds of Sikhs by
Hindus, after Indira Gandhi raided (quite unjustifiably - her excuses
are lame) the sacred religious Sikh site, the Golden Temple. How many
Hindu temples were similarly raided based on the caste-based murders
and crimes against society instigated by Hindus in their own temples?

Sikhs have made the most sacrifices (over 80% casulaties were those of Sikhs) during India's independence. They have contributed tremendously to Indian welfare and now, they are being oppressed in their own land, particularly by people like you.

It just goes to show how racist Indians, especially Hindus, really
are. I am surprised you post this at a time when the PM of India, a
far cry from corrupt and uneducated Hindu politicians like Laloo
Prasad Yadav, is a Sikh sardar, who finally knows more peace than self-interest, and is finally re-building the Indian economy and potential, something the previous Hindu politicians have consistently proven that they've been uncapable of. Racist people like you, who bash successful minorities to protect the interests of the Hindu majority, are a disgrace to India.

Sikh fundamentalism has attracted very little attention in the West. This could be because the few Westerners who have actually heard of the Sikh religion mistakenly consider it to be a part of Hinduism! Actually, the Sikh religion was founded by Guru Nanak in Punjab in 16th century, who rejecetd both the major religions i.e., Islam and Hinduism of the day. The state of Punjab was split between the Muslim majority areas which became a part of Pakistan and Hindu-Sikh majority areas which became part of India. Further seeds of conflict were sown in Indian part of Punjab due to the language and Punjab was separated again into Punjab, a Sikh majority state and Haryana, a Hindu majority state. Again the dividing of Punjab into 2 states led to territorial, water sharing disputes etc.

In the late 1970s, the Indian government started interfering in Sikh religious affairs by involving Nirankaris, a sect which uses scriptures of sikh and hindu religions. This was resented by the Sikhs. On Baisakhi day, the day Sikhism was founded, in 1978 there was conflict between Nirankaris and Sikhs in Amritsar and 13 Sikhs were shot dead by the security forces provided to the Nirankari chief. (The question is why where the Nirankaris holding their meeting during the most sacred day in Sikh calender and in Amritsar ?) This was the beginning of the conflict in Punjab.

Some of the fundamentalist Hindus in Punjab e.g Lala Jagat Narain, who owned a prominent newspaper in Punjab, took the side of Nirankaris and posted blasphamous articles about the Sikh faith. Lala jagat Narain and the Nirankari chief were both gunned down by the Sikh fundamentalists. The conflict reached dangerous proportions when all Sikhs were harassed and not allowed to enter Delhi during 1982 Asian games. The conflict continued until 1984, when the Indian army attacked the Golden temple, on the pretext to remove fundamentalists from Golden Temple. The Golden temple attack stunned the followers of Sikh religion leading to the assassination of Indian prime minister Mrs.Indira Gandhi.

The assasination of Indira Gandhi led to the massacre of Sikhs all over India. The final chapter in this conflict begin when an armed insurgency begin in Punjab. But by the mid-1990s, Sikh fundamentalism had considerably weakened. This was due to a variety of reasons. Sikh funadmentalist movement arose to punish the people responsible for destroying Golden temple and killing of Sikhs during 1984 riots. Once this was achieved the movement lost its momentum. With no obvious target, the various militant groups started targeting each other leading to their own demise. Most of the people supporting the fundamentalists also realised that the conflict was unwinable due to the overwhelming superiority of Indian armed forces. The inter-territorial, water sharing disputes etc. between Punjab and other states involved have not been solved and may lead to future conflicts.

Finally, it is ironic that Hindus who came to the 9th Sikh guru asking to protect their faith (they were being persecuted by the Moghul rulers) and for whom the Guru sacrificed his life have forgot their own persecution. Furthermore even during 1947 riots the Hindus often took refuge in Sikh gurudwaras (temples).

Indeed, it has become a common propoganda by some Hindus that all minorities i.e, Muslims, Sikhs, christians etc. in India are fundamentalists. The fundamentalism of people among these religions in India should be seen vis-a-vis to repression of minorities and increased Hindu fundamentalism in India. (Have you seen a Sikh funadmentalist who is against Europe, US, church, Jews etc.)

Well, Anonymous,

YOu have not noticed all that well, Have you ? ( I have mentioned 1984 anti-sikh riots)

The point was that if Ppl like Lal Jagat Narain were killed by Sikhs just because they took sides with Nirankaris, persons accused of more heinous crimes, like the one commited, duirn the 1984 riots including some present-day people-in-power got away with it inspite-of-Bhindranwale.

I still think it is pretty naive of Bhindranwale and others to attack innovent people instead of the perpetrateors to take revenge.

Over generalisation is too bad. Hindus have lot of respect for Sikhs, their contribution to the country. Manmohan for all his greatness is only an individual. THe armed forces is an example of the Sikh's great contribution.

What a bigot this blogger is....not to mention how dumb and uninformed he is.....he is advocating that sikhs would have perpertrated more violence if they were any smarter.....if this is Hindu Intelligence, thank god I am not a Hindu.

Just because you knew someone in the Air India bombing does not give you the right to spout this nonsense. A lot more people were killed by congress goons that the AI bombers....at least the AI kileers were tried in canadian courts....the sikhs families who lost loved ones got no such closure.

Thanks for you comment, Suhel.

Yes, the objective was to reflect that if the Sikh (Khalistan factions) had tempered anger with direction, the real culprits would have been 'punished' and not innocent citizens.

How did you like the post ?
